If you have a love for Spanish food and all things tapas, the newly opened El Matador in a little laneway in Brisbane’s CBD is the place to be, no bull!
The brainchild of Leo Castelluccio, who opened Melbourne venues Graffiti Club, Cato and Bakers Gallery, El Matador is set to electrify the atmosphere and bring an authentic Spanish flair to the bustling Burnett Lane precinct.
Guests can see the chefs creating their delicious tapas with its open kitchen. With authentic Spanish features such as a humidifier with tasty cured meats and a Pira oven direct from Barcelona, you could easily forget you are in Brisbane’s CBD.
There is a lavish array of tapas and pintxos to please the appetites of lovers of these Spanish delicacies. This ranges from the delicious Sunshine Coast Padrón peppers with burnt cauliflower, cumin, and olive oil to the savoury three-cheese tarts with baby figs and honey to croquetas de jamon with confit chicken and mojo picon. Guests are absolutely spoiled for choice.
El Matador also features traditional Spanish pastries for those with a sweet tooth and soul-soothing coffee for those who need a little pep after their midday siesta. For those who like something a bit stronger, El Matador boasts an extensive drinks menu, showcasing the best of the best of Spanish wine, beer and specialty cocktails.
Leo, with his love for Melbourne’s lively laneway culture, sees great opportunities for Burnett Lane and has planned his next move, a deluxe cocktail and karaoke bar across the road. Named “The Burnett Lane Cocktail Bar”, this expansion will make it the perfect place to sip on some cocktails while waiting for your table.
Open from 7am to 12am Monday to Saturday, El Matador is open to satisfy that Spanish craving at any time of the day.
By grabbing the principles of authentic Spanish cuisine by the horns, El Matador makes us glad to be along for the ride. To check out their website for more information click here.
