Downtown Bar
32 Burton St. Darlinghurst

First up is Downtown Bar, located directly under The Common’s Local Eating House. This stylish den is serving up le jazz hot on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and they don’t plan on stopping any time soon. Think the golden age of New Orleans, with an extremely cozy 1940’s vibe and a cocktail menu that will be impossibly difficult to decide on. If we had to choose one though, we’d recommend the Banana and Cinnamon Trinidad Old Fashioned.

We haven’t been able to get this cocktail out of our minds since learning about its existence, and we’re 100% sure you won’t be able to now either, so do us both a favour and try this drink, and this bar IRL.

Don’t let the name fool you, this place is going off.  Now Lazybones Lounge might not exclusively play jazz, but when they do its pretty magical. The red lighting in this place creates an instantly sexy and intriguing vibe, and this atmosphere combined with jazz music is just the chill hang out spot you’ve been searching for.  This funky and highly chic haunt is not to be missed!

Palmer & Co
Abercrombie Ln

This prohibition era inspired speakeasy is dedicated to convincing you you’ve been transported back in time, back to an era where the drinks were flowing and the jazz was poppin’.  Wednesday night is swing night at Palmer & Co, and what better way is there to celebrate making it halfway through the work week than getting footloose and fancy free to the sweet sweet jazzy beats of the Sydney Swing Dance Troupe “All about Swing”.

To those of you thinking ‘I don’t care about dancing, I just want those delish dranks’, don’t worry, Palmer & Co are all over it with a full cocktail menu that has perhaps the most poetically named drinks of all time. Why not try the ‘Prelude to a Kiss’ or the ‘This Side of Paradise’?

And who knows, after a few ‘Fashion and Fames’ you too may be doing the Charleston well into the night.

Foundry 616
616 Harris St. Ultimo

Foundry 616 lives and breathes jazz music. Their calendar is chock full of the coolest live acts dying to show you a great time, so whatever night you’re free, they’ll be there waiting for you. Foundry 616’s cool bluesy vibe is stylish and hypnotic, and will leave you clearing your schedule so you can come back every night of the week!

But “do they have an equally impressive drinks list?” I hear you ask. Not to fear thirsty reader, they do! Now we love a cheeky mid-week alcoholic beverage as much as the next jazz enthusiast, but we must recommend ‘The Dark Crystal’ mocktail. All you need to know is that there is milk and dark chocolate in the same glass. Pair that with some amazing live jazz music and you have yourself a pretty sweet night.
