Picture this: you’re surrounded by the historic grand stand of North Sydney Oval, with the cricket green beneath your picnic blankets, complete with good food, good company and your favourite movie. Well, imagine no more -because Sunset Cinema has your summer dream nights sorted!
Gates open from 6:30pm Wednesday to Saturday from January 28th – April 3rd. Throw it back to the days where you would set up a little blanket fort in the lounge for a movie night with your friends, but this time enjoy the alfresco atmosphere scented by the sweet mixture of mozzie spray (BYO) mixed with fresh popcorn.
Tickets are general admission, where you can choose to sit on the cricket lawn or in the Grand Stand. If you’re on the lawn please bring your own picnic blankets or chairs (they may obstruct the view of others, so you will be seated up the back), or hire some comfy bean lounges (which includes free popcorn!).
For the ultimate VIP experience you can upgrade your ticket to Lawn Lounging which includes bottomless popcorn, premium bean lounge hire and a prime viewing position.
The night is what you make it so BYO food, if you are so inclined. Why not treat yourself to a nice adult spread of artisan cheese and crackers, sided with some kombucha to wet your palette?
If you really feel like treating yourself – and if you’re anything like us after a long 2020 – there will be a rotation of food trucks to choose from each night, so your evening can be fully catered if you wish. Order your food with your QR code and pick it up when it’s ready! We’re not sure about you, but we can get used to this new ‘no line’ policy.
This is a family-friendly, licensed event, with all alcohol bought on site so please leave the esky of seltzers at home. Luckily, local legends Manly Spirits, Bent Spoke Beers and Molly’s Cradle Wines will be sharing their produce at the licensed bar, there will also be non-alcoholic drinks available.
If you’re feeling like a Traditional Terry in the food department, there will be a selection of popcorn, Serendipity Choc Tops and your favourite hot foods available to purchase as well.
Movie wise, there is a little something for everyone – from Star Wars to a Studio Ghibli classic, to the romantic ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’ screening especially for Valentine’s Day. New movies like ‘The Witches’ and old favourites like’ The Lion King’ will also be screening. You may have to clear your schedule for this monster movie marathon.
Tickets can be bought online until the time of the event, but we’d recommend securing your spot as soon as possible as there will be no box office on site.
Check out the website for the full spread of movies and more information.
