A weekend of wine and sweet serenity is almost upon us, as the masterful Winemakers of Rutherglen prepare for the return of the annual Winery Walkabout.
Spanning the Queen’s birthday long weekend on the 9th and 10th of June, the event promises a jam-packed experience of the region, where festival-goers can indulge in wine tastings, a host of live music and entertainment, tours, markets, food trucks, masterclasses, buffet breakfasts and much more.
The ticketed event is a sell-out each year, with humble origins dating back to 1974, now calling more than 16,000 guests to the picturesque escape on the Victorian Murray River.
A three-hour scenic drive from Melbourne, the Rutherglen region is the ideal escape; 19 wineries in close proximity to each other and a shuttle bus available to easily tour the area.
Renowned for their iconic Muscat’s and delicious reds, the carefully crafted favourites are the foundation for innovative cocktails including the Muscat Espresso Martini and Muscat Sangria, leaving you with the lingering taste of luxury.
A progressive food menu is also on offer to compliment the array of drinks that await.
Cool nights and warm days epitomise the Rutherglen region, capturing the unique charm that’ll ensure the 2018 Winery Walkabout is the epic winter get-away.
