It’s that time of year again! Santa Claus is on his way, everyone is trying to get on his good list and you better believe he’ll be checking it twice. Christmas is our favourite time of year and we love getting into the festive spirit, and so does the Queen Victoria Market!
Melbourne, you’re in for treat! Everyone knows that the Vic Market is the ultimate shopping destination for fresh produce and gifts, but they’re also known for being super festive leading up to Christmas. The festivities start on December 1st with live entertainment, environmentally friendly gift wrapping workshops, a Christmas trail for kids plus a visit from the big man in red himself!
The Christmas Market will be open for the five days leading up to Christmas Day, we recommended you get in as early as you can as the Market is expecting a turnout of more than 165,000 people, all ready to buy those classic Christmas goodies for an epic feast.
So, what can you expect at the Vic Market this December? Well for the eco-warriors out there, you’ll be glad to know that there are two DIY environmentally friendly Xmas workshops.
The Beeswax Wrap Workshop on the 9th of December is here to teach you a simple and alternative way of using cling wrap and plastic bags.
For you Christmas chefs out there, there is also a workshop on the 9th of December called the Preserves Workshop. This workshop will teach you how to preserve food using modern recipes. Not only will you get to learn a thing or to, but you’ll also get to do some tasting, as well as receiving a take-home jam that you can give away as a Christmas gift.
Get ready to expect a beautiful display of tinsel and other Christmas decorations as the stalls will all be decked out! There will also be the chance for you to win $200 worth of Market Vouchers! All you have to do is take a photo of your favourite decorated stall and then share and upload it to Instagram, tagging @vicmarket and #deckthestalls.
It wouldn’t be Christmas time at the Vic Market without some live music. This year, the cutest possible Christmas carols will be performed by Fitzroy North Primary School and St Michael’s North Melbourne Primary School.
The big man in red himself will be making a sneaky stop to the market on Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd of December for the little ones to enjoy. Kids will be able to send their wish list straight to Santa’s workshop at the North Pole through his very special mail box from December 1st and all letters will get a reply!
Kids will also have the chance to explore the market by using their very own Christmas trail map. Little ones can then use the map to gather 12 clues for the chance to win a super awesome prize!
