Make your way down Flinders Lane and you will be bombarded by multitudes of hidden restaurants and bars and no idea which one to choose. Eventually you will stumble upon the corner of Exhibition and Flinders and lo’ and behold, Tazio and Little Flinders will appear before your eyes! Hidden City Secrets found Tazio ages ago, but recently decided to try their new menus and the newly refurbished upstairs restaurant, Little Flinders.
Starters from Little Flinders: Grilled Haloumi with Figs and Fresh Lemon Juice & Macaroni and Cheese
The haloumi had a delicious burnt butter flavour that matches with the fig and lemon perfectly. A great start to the meal, alongside our $15 carafe of house white. For research purposes of course!
The star of the show was the macaroni and cheese. You know how mac and cheese can be one of those throwaway starters that is full of rich, creamy cheese that you crave for about five seconds before you start feeling overwhelmed and a little bit nauseous? Well, this mac and cheese was nothing like that. The crunchy topping perfectly complemented the smooth creaminess of the cheese and the soft macaroni, alongside delicious tidbits of bacon… I’m still dreaming of it a week later.
Main from Tazio: Veneto Pizza
Next was the Veneto Pizza… What can I say? That crispy pancetta melts in your mouth, the roasted peppers add a smoky and sweet flavour, and the goat’s cheese is creamy and delicious. All three together on top of a thin and crunchy pizza base makes for one hell of a pizza.
All in all, Tazio and Little Flinders are two awesome venues that have some fantastic food, delicious wine, and are actually pretty damn affordable! Going out with a group of friends? Looking for the next date night venue? Great for group dining, [HCS] would definitely recommend these guys.
