Señorita, would you like another Margherita?
Or a mouthwatering Tostada? If you do not know what a Tostada is, then why not go to Mamasita to see what their new head chef is cooking up!
Perched over a 7/11 and up a secret staircase on Collins Street, Mamasita has been treating Melbournians for almost a decade to the rich, vibrant and passionate flavours of Mexico.
Mamasita and their new head chef, Martin Zozaya, will take you on an adventure which encompasses their great love for Mexican cuisine and culture. Their dedication to the art of Mexican cooking embraces both traditional and regional techniques that truly make eating there a modern Mexican experience. With a wealth of experience and knowledge which includes running kitchens from Mexico City and successful stints in Buenos Aires and Madrid, Zozaya brings the gorgeous Mexican vibrancy that could be something straight out of a Frida Kahlo painting.
Mamasita co-owner, Nick Peters says: “Martin’s inherent understanding of Mexican ingredients, techniques and dishes is the perfect fit for what we continue to endeavour to provide for our beloved guests – a modern take on Mexican cuisine, suited to Melbourne”.
You will be able to taste Mamasita’s Handmade Burrata with a traditional mexican sauce, almonds, baby corn, puffed rice, as well as Macadamia and Cashew Nut Chorizo Tostada with cashew crema and pico de gallo, and Shellfish Tostada with cured mussels, minced prawns and salmon, ‘Acapulco coctel’ sauce and guacamole.
This innovative and creative menu can be washed down with some charming cocktails, including the Cucumber Jalapeño – Tapatío blanco, cucumber, jalapeño, chilli salt rim, or the Mama Margarita – Herradura plata, Pierre Ferrand curaçao, agave, lime, salt, and a cerveza or two.
Also, Mamasita have fashioned a warm and atmospheric dining environment that feels all the more sophisticated. You will be walking into a brand new, more modern refurbished Mamasita with replaced floors, a long acoustic ceiling installation and refitted kitchen.
Mamasita is open Monday to Thursday from 5pm, and Friday to Sunday from 12:30pm onwards. So why not head down and try out the flavourful new menu – it might just knock your sombrero off.
