When you think of Melbourne, the first image you conjure up isn’t likely to be one of farmers and livestock, amirite? In actual fact, the closest a lot of true-blue Melburnians usually get to a sheep is being wrapped in a plush merino wool scarf on a crisp spring day. As of the 17th of September, however, this all changes. Yes, it’s Royal Melbourne Show time again.
Taking over the Melbourne Showgrounds until the 27th of September, the show offers a little something for everyone – animals of all shapes and sizes, arts, crafts and cookery, entertainment, dog shows, hands-on activities for the little guys, and who could forget everyone’s favourite; wood chopping?
If any of that tickles your fancy, you can find further information and the daily schedule here, and it’s honestly a doozy. Even for you diehard hipsters; you can get amongst some crochet in the crafts tent, or imitate Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood in the ‘Winning Tastes’ pavilion. If that still fails to excite – there is of course a cocktail making competition, which no Melbourne resident worth their salt can find fault with.
Get. Excited.
