A little red fox that has taken up residency on Richmond’s Church St hub, stealing the hearts of locals and visitors alike. Her name is Maeve and we promise she won’t bite, instead, is happy to share her humble abode, offering a safe haven away from the weekend chaos that spills onto the streets of this neck of the woods.
Situated next to East Richmond, on any other day you may walk past her, but from Wednesday – Friday, Maeve opens her doors and offers a relaxed and comfortable drinking hole where you can catch up with friends, pop past before heading to the G, or have a quiet drink after dinner. The intimate bar is marginally different to its neighbours, offering a boutique feel, away from the hawker crowds, with her hospitality famous around town, like the Sunday half-price-everything night, we think we may have found Melbourne’s most generous fox…
Come in after work on a Friday and make the most of the happy hour specials (or hours should we say), where from 5pm-9pm, $4 wines and $10 cocktails and James Boags jugs are on offer. Additionally, on Friday’s, 1 dollar will get you dumplings and springrolls, just to keep the happiness going.
With a focus on shared food, the menu is designed with companionship in mind, the ethos being “good quality food that can be enjoyed with a few drinks”. We highly recommend the Southern fried chicken or the calamari so tenderly flash fried it just melts. Oh, did we mention they do jaffles?
If we haven’t tempted you enough to pay this coveted fox a visit, we leave you with two words so adored my Melburnians, it’s a wonder why it hasn’t become the city’s national symbol. Espresso Martinis. And not any old espresso martini. Using cold-drip coffee, may we tease you you to try one of their ingenious twists on the classic, like the Orange Mocha Frappuccino.
