The best places to celebrate Grand Final Day in style

We know it’s come up fast, but the biggest day in the sports calendar for Melburnians is here, the AFL Grand Final! Whether you’re a football fan or not, Grand Final Day gives you a long weekend and an excuse to party. No matter who wins, fun is undeniably had on this day every year, so get around it!

We’ve compiled a list of very viable options of things for you to do this Saturday the 29th of September. There are plenty of events running out there that guarantee you cheap drinks, great food and (of course) top quality live viewing of the match! Any one of these places will give you a great experience for the 2018 AFL Granny.

Hotel Barkly

Hotel Barkly in St Kilda will be celebrating Grand Final Day on their rooftop bar. There will be live viewing of the match on TV screens, as well as a large projected screen. Tickets are essential as in previous years this popular event has sold out quickly. Tickets are $65 and include a 3 hour beverage package, canapes throughout the game and a follow up BBQ with live music so you can keep celebrating well after the game is over!

The Bridge Hotel

Snatch yourself an upstairs package at The Bridge Hotel in Richmond, which includes 5 hours of local tap beer, house wine and food from 12:30pm. A $100 ticket will give you a 5 hour beverage package so you can enjoy the game in the right way. If it tickles your fancy, add another $25 dollars onto your ticket and you will have access to an unlimited Aussie BBQ from 1pm until 4pm. The Waterside Hotel will also have a Public Bar with the game shown live and loud on all screens, their doors will open at 10am so you can start your celebrations early.

If you’re around Swan Street, their doors will open from 8:30am for a pre-game breakfast, including food and beverages for $80 a head. Garden State Hotel

With a great location in the heart of Melbourne on Flinders Lane, you can celebrate the biggest day in AFL however you like. There will be a Public Bar and Beer Garden open from 10am where you can watch the game on all screens. If you’re after more of a planned event or are attending the actual match, you can pay $80 for Brunch in the Garden Grill which is a 10 minute walk from the MCG, it includes a three course meal and a drink on arrival. You can also book in and enjoy a three course lunch for $170 in the observatory that runs throughout the match, and you can watch on the big screen.

Terminus Hotel

Enjoy the big match from The Terminus Hotel in Abbotsford. They will have their doors wide open from 11am, with all seats in the public bar up for grabs for the quickest punters. Village Belle

They’ll be opening an hour earlier than usual at 11am and bookings are essential.  They will also be showing all the finals games leading up to GF and offering $15 jugs of Carlton Draught during the first quarter of each game (excluding Grand Final Day). However, The National Hotel are offering a special menu for the special occasion. They’ll be showing the game on 7 screens, including their beer garden big screen!

There are 14 big screens around the venue that will be playing the match and after the final siren has gone a DJ will be downstairs to keep the party going into the night!
