Say goodbye to the working week in true 70’s style, this year’s ever-loved European Night Market is set to be a success. Head down to Madame Brussels Lane in the CBD from 5-10pm every Friday night this July to indulge in some of Melbourne’s most prized food stalls and luminous homegrown entertainment.
After soaring numbers last year the market will now be 30% bigger, in addition to the size revamp a majority of stalls have an inclusive menu to choose from, with options for everyone ranging from gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan.
Re-opening for four weeks in conjunction with the market, the historical Oddfellows Hotel will be fashioning custom-designed Mulled Wine and Hot Toddies. Being one of the oldest surviving buildings in the City of Melbourne, this is a pretty special homecoming.
Italy will be brought to life through Nutella stuffed doughnuts from Café Babbo’s, classic pastries from Eat Cannoli, crisp panzerotti from Il Panzerotto Taste of Pugila, and modern twists on the traditional desert from Tiramisu Lift Me Up.
Next on the lineup is France, with a selection from The Brulee Cart, Pop Up Crepe and Degani, alongside a decadent savoury option from Frencheese. We’re talking oozing sling bowls of melted Raclette, an indulgence for cheese lovers.
If you’d rather opt for something light to snack on, Chooh La La’s will be on site dishing out a range of hot candied nuts. Stopping over in Poland, fan favourites Pierogi Pierogi are back with their humble Polish dumpling. Fillings include creamy potato and cheese, slow cooked organic beef, chicken and vegetable, or the vegan mushroom and sauerkraut. The Swiss are also making an appearance; first timers Swiss Made will be debuting Malakoff’s, the adored ball of fried cheese, along with sauerkraut and smoked meats.
Hella Good have the coeliacs covered with gluten free gyros and souvlaki, and an assortment of Greek sweets. Goz City will be bringing you Turkish Gözleme and dips, whilst Elena’s Paella will transport you to Spain with huge portions of the classic Spanish rice. Lastly we’re taken to Germany and Austria, with sausages covered in sauerkraut, caramelised onions and cheese from Bavarian bangers, paired perfectly with a fresh hand-rolled bretzel from Bretzel Biz.
Entertainment wise, artist Fleiss will be spinning Euro Disco beats, followed by Tanya George who will be showcasing an unmissable looping set. The Quizzical Mr Jeff and Sam Starr, eccentric roving entertainers will be lit up for the occasion, sporting custom designed costumes created by British designer Ariane Bingham.
The lanes very own Little Lon Distilling co are mixing a house made ‘A Lon Winter’s Night’ cocktail, exclusively for the market. Consisting of Ginger Mick Gin, Le Birlou apple and chestnut liqueur, lemon, cloudy apple juice and orgeat. Garnished with fresh nutmeg and flaked almonds, this warming blend will go down a treat. Two additional locals to the lane, Men’s Barber Shop will be open with specialty pricing, and retailer Spoilt will have scarves and beanies for sale in case you didn’t come prepared for the nightly temperature drop.
