As we approach winter, it can be easy to want to escape to the warmer, tropical countries of the world. Well, look no further than Bang Bang – a restaurant that exudes the buzzing atmosphere of South Eastern paradises.
Nestled in the heart of Elsternwick, Bang Bang oozes all things exciting and playful. Reminiscent of South Eastern influences with its lush greenery, hanging lanterns and bamboo stools, Bang Bang combines both the new and the old, and the East and the West. The ruminants of the rustic, red brick walls allude to its former functioning as a rifle range built in 1915, which has now transformed into an all-day eatery and bar. Its large, open space boasts natural lighting that flows into the tranquil outdoor courtyard, found directly underneath its eye-catching palm tree – complete with an outdoor bar, heaters and colourful chairs.
Colourful and bursting with flavor, its French Indochine inspired menu will be sure to excite! Its menu brags mouthwatering options – all of which you’ll want to try. It showcases aromatic spices, rich sauces, fresh herbs and draws from traditional techniques to curate beautifully harmonious dishes with hot, sour, salty, sweet and even bitter flavours. With so many options to choose from, bring a few friends to come along and try some with you.
Our pick is to start off with freshly shucked oysters with red chilli and lime granite and their famous smoked trout betel leaves. Next, try their crispy chicken ribs with lemongrass caramel, chilli and coriander, which has been a hit ever since it debuted. Trust us when we say, it’s good! Other favourites include their stunning Hiramasa kingfish sashimi and their succulent roasted pork belly paired with freshly steamed baos. Finish your visit with a bang with dessert options such as mango and yuzu mousse, carefully curated with white chocolate, raspberries and passionfruit sorbet.
