Take a wander off Chapel Street, turn the corner onto High Street, and find your new favourite hidden loft-style cocktail bar, Galah.
Enter through the boutique bottle shop down stairs, and head to the upstairs bar which provides a delightful setting for late afternoon drinks, then transforms to an ambient and intimate space as the sun goes down.
The bar has dark features, however large windows allow plenty of natural light to flood in, making it a super lovely, bright and relaxed setting during the day. Seating options include group tables, booths, couches and bar seats therefore catering for social groups of all sorts.
Galah celebrates Australian native herbs and botanicals, and uses fresh, local produce which is reflected in both their food and beverage menus. We’re talking flavours like lemon myrtle, wattle-seed, saltbush and even Vegemite. Yes – Vegemite! So, let’s not beat around the bush here – time to discuss the goods. The drinks menu showcases the best of our country’s wine, beer, liquor and spirits and incorporates them into tantalising cocktails, as well as letting them shine on their own. Choose from one of their signature cocktails like the Barney Banana or the Australiano, or keep it O.G and grab one of the classics with a cheeky Galah twist.
The food menu is kept short yet delicious, therefore allowing the fresh ingredients to shine on their own. They’ve put their own twist on traditional bar favourites, offering snacks like House Baked Focaccia served with Chili oil and Saltbush butter, as well as prawns with butter & Vegemite emulsion (and of course olives, nuts and pickles for those who REALLY keep it simple!)
Perfect for groups or even just date night – their sharing platters are a tasty addition to any evening. Choose from the ‘All Australian Cheese Board’ or ‘All Australian Charcuterie Board’, both of which are great for a slow-graze type situation.
If your appetite extends beyond bar snacks, opt for the ‘Chef’s Selection’ three-course meal which can be booked online. For groups of 20 or more, food and drink packages can be arranged, and the option for an a la carte menu is made available for groups of 30 or more. Book your next function or party online!
Friday’s and Saturday’s will be sound tracked by a different in-house DJ each night, and be sure to keep an eye on their website for weekly specialty nights – we’re pretty stoked about the $1 oysters and half price mussels on Wednesdays! For the bottomless brunch enthusiasts out there – you’ll be pleased to know that your new fav bar is rolling out their Goldrush bottomless brunch every Sunday until March.
