There is no need to pack your bags and fly overseas because for a second year in a row the Hawker 88 Night Market is back at Queen Vic Market. You will have definitely have a multifaceted, cultural experience where you can enjoy all that Asian bars and restaurants have to offer at this market. Every Wednesday night from the 18th September to 23rd October, and with more than 20 stalls, your taste-buds will transport you to from China to India, Vietnam to Korea and Malaysia to Japan in just one night!
There will be traditional dishes like Filipino barbecue, Malay satay, Indian curries, and Korean pork belly and yes you can definitely pretend you are in that night market scene in Crazy Rich Asians. I know I will! And I don’t know about you but I now have a crazy rich appetite (no pun intended). Obviously this market is definitely a must this Spring so write is down on that to-do list please!
With food at the centre of its culture, the Asian experience includes immersing oneself into food flavours, aromas, colours and form and you can definitely do this here. I truly and whole-heartedly believe that one of the best things about being a Melbournian are opportunities like this Night market that give us the chance to try something new and engage with multicultural experiences.
Additionally, to complete the experience, the sounds and colours of Asia will fill the Market sheds with live music and entertainment, including traditional dancers and performers taking centre stage. Expect everything from a traditional Chinese lion dance, to martial arts and K-Pop and it is very important to note that each Wednesday night has a different theme. This includes;
18 September: Mooncake Festival
25 September: Malaysia 2 October: Korea & Japan
9 October: Bali & Borocay Island
16 October: Diwali Bollywood
23 October: South East Asia
As our lives are made up of different, wonderful and wacky experiences I urge and double dare you to go and check out this amazing Night Market. Definitely take your family and friends and head down to Queen Vic Market for an immersive, rich and vibrant Asian experience.
