by Sarah Panther

ATTENTION ALL CHOCCY LOVERS! It’s that time of year again, the annual Hot Chocolate Festival has reared its delicious head. Prepare your chocoholic stomachs for all sorts of delicious and twisted flavours to escape the winter chill this August.

Held in three regional Victorian chocolateries in the Yarra Valley, the Mornington Peninsula and the Great Ocean Road, the festival celebrates all things hot, and chocolate. An array of 31 different flavours of hot chocolates are available for your choosing. These include the Green Goddess with coconut and kale and The Shoey, which isn’t as gross as its alcoholic counterpart. This one’s drunk out of a chocolate shoe rather than your mate Kevin’s smelly Nikes.

There are 8 new flavours to test out each week, giving you an excuse to go on a weekly road trip just to try out some new hot choccy flavours. 31 flavours in 31 days? Bring it on.

Each drink comes with a shot of your choice of white, milk or dark hot couverture chocolate. You also get a massive, fluffy marshmallow to melt in your mug (or to just straight-up eat).

If you can’t decide which flavour to dedicate yourself to (which is fair) you can try a tasting platter of 8 different drinks. You will also get to make three of your own hot choccy spoons to take the goodness home with you. For $20, it’s definitely worth it and because of this, bookings are essential.

If there’s a flavour that stands out from the rest for you, make sure to vote for it during the festival for the chance to win your body weight in chocolate bars! I don’t know about you, but it’s definitely worth putting on a few kilos for this.

While you’re there, it’s a great opportunity to try some of the other amazing treats offered by the chocolaterie. Amazing site-churned icecreams, delectable pastries and the Great Wall of Chocolate featuring 34 different varieties of chocolate await you.

Although the locations may be far for some, it’s certainly worth the scenic drive, and honestly, who doesn’t like a road trip with your friends? (Except Kevin, he smells).
