Let me guess: you are curled up on the couch in a set of pyjamas you’ve worn three days in a row, you need to clean your room and you don’t have anything in the house to eat. To make it worse, all you see on Instagram are the photos from that one friend’s 3-month Europe trip.
Well, get over feeling jelly because you are about to take a trip where you wont need a passport. To do this, however, you’ll sadly need to leave the comfort of your couch. But trust us, it’ll be worth it!

Frida Kahlo’s Summer House
Our first stop will take us to Mexico where we are transported back in time to artist Frida Kahlo’s house. A short drive over Story Bridge to Kangaroo Point and you will arrive at your destination- Frida Kahlo’s Summer House.
With an aesthetic that captures the essence of Frida Kahlo’s home, you will see photographs and murals of her as well as Kahlo’s own artwork all over the walls of the dining areas. You will feel right at home with the vibrant blue décor and radiant array of greenery decorating the indoor space and the courtyard! Stepping into this space will seriously feel like you have left Brisbane. If you don’t think so then the food will definitely transport you.
Offering something for everyone, this menu is bursting with bold Mexican flavours to satisfy anyone’s hunger. Frida Kahlo’s Summer House has the classics such as house guacamole and chips, flautas, enchiladas, and a heavenly spread of tacos. Street inspired dishes have never tasted so good! Don’t eat too much yet though as there is still a broad range of mouth-watering food available that you must try.
Another added bonus in coming to Frida Kahlo’s Summer House is the array of options for our vegan buddies. So skip the trouble of language barriers that come with travelling overseas and have a taste of Mexican cuisine.
Soko Rooftop
We hope you aren’t afraid of heights because for our next destination you will need to brave the skies. You won’t need to travel all the way to Japan, but, you will be in the clouds at Soko Rooftop! Located only 10 minutes from Brisbane’s CBD, you will be transported by this venue’s Peruvian and Japanese fusion style of cooking.
Overlooking the skyline of the city, the interior of this restaurant is a place all people will want to travel to. With a lavish interior and a sophisticated dining experience catered for your table, the hardest part will be leaving (much like any holiday). Except, you will be able to come back any time you like!
With a deliciously curated menu created by their specialist chefs, enjoy a range of traditional meals which showcase a range of Peruvian and Japanese cooking methods. Combining flavours to create a delicious tasting experience, you can enjoy a full-range A La Carte menu which offers a range of meals to share or have for yourself. Some of the delectable food on offer includes spicy tuna on crispy rice, edamame and wagyu striploin. For something with a more Peruvian taste try the arroz chifa! This dish features a traditional style of rice , crispy tocino (pork) with fresh garnishes – save me a seat! There is also a delicious range of bao buns, ceviche, cured fish, yakitori, maki rolls, nigiri and desserts on offer.
Ah, and of course! We can’t forget the drinks. There is definitely something for everyone as Soko’s beverage menu is extensive across all categories. Whether you are a Sake, Beer, Wine, Spirits or Cocktails kind of person, Soko has you covered with one-of-a-kind drinks. If you are feeling like having even more fun, there is also a range of shooters for you to order.
Winghaus
Our wheels are up again and we are going to America for some wings, burgers and nachos to watch with the game. Seriously, this place is like stepping into an American sports bar! In reality, you haven’t even left Brisbane’s CBD when you enter Winghaus on Edward Street.
With high table tops, communal tables, bar stools and leather booths for your comfort, this restaurant will make you cheer for sports you’ve never even watched until now. Decorated with timber, hanging lights and a bar that could provide for a group of any size, Winghaus is a stop you must check out with friends.
To feed all hungry travelers the menu offers a range of nachos, crispy pork baby back ribs, deliciously crafted burgers, fries and of course, wings. Let’s talk more about these wings though, because they are catered for you to ensure you have the perfect bite! Winghaus also let’s you choose how you want your wings cooked and what flavours you want on them. There is a massive list of sauces and rubs to choose from so there is something delicious for everyone. You can also customise your spice level – but be careful! Some of these wings can pack a punch, with the heat index ranging from ‘Hot’ to ‘Call the Doctor’ (OMG!).
While we hope that no one will be calling the doctor make sure to call your friends! You can each order your own serve or you can order 100 wings as a portion, so get ready to feast!
Eat Street Northshore
For our last destination we are doing something a little bit different. Where is it that you have ALWAYS wanted to travel to? Greece maybe? Or perhaps Italy? How about South America? What if I told you that you could visit all of them? Let us introduce you to Eat Street Northshore.
Located 15 minutes from Brisbane’s CBD in Northshore is any foodie’s dream. Here, you can eat a wide variety of street food from many different cultures! Some of these delicious cuisines includes European, Middle Eastern, Japanese, Mexican, Indian, South American and Chinese foods. This is the perfect place to visit with your friends and family so you can try as many dishes as possible!
Perched along the Brisbane River, you can overlook the water and city skyline while eating to your hearts content! Be sure to walk around and explore the area so you don’t miss any of the booths as they have over 70 traders. There are also 5 themed bars available if you wanted to drink, eclectic shops for fun souvenirs and fun stalls to give you a fantastic night to remember.
Although you won’t be leaving the ground on any international flights, by the end of the night you will have visited and had some delicious dishes from six of the world’s seven continents including Asia, Australia, North America, South America and Europe.
So, don’t stress about pet sitters, money, and getting time off from your job when you can have a trip away from home all whilst staying in Brisbane!
