Melbourne’s Favourite Modern Mexican and Barbecue Restaurants Team Up for One Day Only

by By Tiahne Frederic

ANECDOTE TIME:

On a weekend away, one of my friends – you know that friend who always gives the best food recommendations – recommended a restaurant. She said that it was AMAZING and so YUMMY! She gave this place her gold stamp of approval and now I am telling you about their collaborative night that is coming up!

On Sunday 11th August, at 12pm or 2.30pm, the modern Mamasita  (my friend’s fav Mexican restaurant) and the hearty Cheek (Dexter/ Peaches/ Take away pizza) are whipping up a storm with their one lunch only collaboration – “Christmas near July”.

This unique concoction of modern Mexican food and barbecued meat bring both owners together. This is something that has been in the talks for a couple of years, and now finally, you will be able to experience the creative and modern flavours that have been swirling around in the mind of these two food geniuses.

Intrigued? Amazed? Yeah, you should be! This collaboration have come up with some pretty unique and yummy dishes.

“So what’s on the menu?” I hear you say, well Mamasita and Cheek will be running some traditional-ish Mexican Xmas dishes and drinks and giving them a southern American / Korean Cheek lean. The menu will be designed to warm the cockles via slow-braises, roasted and smoked meats, mole and the like, all washed down with quality booze.

They will also be serving these hot little bad boys, Hot meat donut filled with cochinita pibil (traditional Mexican slow-roasted pork), crema, pineapple and salsa (pictured above). Are your taste buds watering right now? Mine definitely are!

At this stage the menu is on the lines of…

  • Bone marrow tostada w shiso, jalapeño, daikon, serrano (pictured above)
  • Taco of smoked short rib, sesame caramel, ancho, mulato, miso ranch (pictured below)
  • Mole rojo, turkey leg (dry aged), cebollitas, cauliflower, garnishes
  • Pastel mil hojas w buñuelos for dessert w duck fat caramel, meringue

Also, this adventurous evening will not burn a hole in your pocket at $65 per head for a five course meal and will obviously make you feeling like you are winning at life. You will also be able to wash this delicious feast with a matched booze price of $49 per head (cocktails/ agave/ vino or a mix of all 3).

Additionally, the vibrant sounds of Mariachis will soundtrack this delicious lunch, and will be sure to transport you to the vivacious Mexico. This explosive combustion of flavour from a Barbecue restaurant and a modern Mexican restaurant will definitely create a fun and “cheeky” (no pun intended) time with family and friends.

Please contact Mamasita for bookings for groups of all sizes.
