The Guildford Hotel has come a long way from its humble beginnings in the 19th century. The former hotel was built in 1886 and has undergone numerous renovations and changes since then. The Guildford Hotel re-opened in 2016 after a devastating fire in 2008. However, the restaurant and bar is now back and better than ever, with revamped furnishings, new function spaces and a deliciously intricate food and drinks menu.
The two-story establishment is open 7 days a week and welcomes a ‘walk-in’ policy. As soon as you walk through the doors of The Guilford, there is a feeling of comfort, elegance and an understanding of its rich history.
The expansive site houses exposed brick throughout, timber floors and ceilings, brass details and the famous winding staircase. The ample amount of space also allows for a sprawling beer garden, covered in fairy lights, wooden picnic benches, drooping lamp lights and mismatched mosaic tiles lining the outside of the bar.
Also part of the décor, is Thomas, Gordon and Percy – the resident BBQ smokers. These three smokers are used to cook meat for hours upon hours to reach a state of perfection. This coupled with their local wine list is a match made in heaven.
The Guilford Hotel is perfect for after-work drinks, casual dining and even a night out. But it’s also the perfect place to host your next function or event! Guildford has set aside three lovely areas for those wishing to celebrate in style. The Vaudeville room is a private function room that can seat up to 100 people for any style of event and even has a welcome area to greet guests or place a pop-up bar!
Other function areas include the 1915 Veranda, an iconic part of The Guildford Hotel’s history, with an amazing view of James and Johnston Street. Lastly, the Hiscox Courtyard is perfect for an outdoor function, and even an indoor function thanks to the retractable roof. This area was made for lounging in the courtyard, with cocktails in hand. Cheers to that.
The food menu is an extensive one that even includes set sharing menus and function menus specifically designed by the head chef for all your feasting needs.
