Taking the place of the old World Bar is a place that is both ironically and appropriately, so out of this world. Having undergone months of renovations and transformations, the highly anticipated Hopscotch bar is ready to open its doors and put the Southbank precinct back on the map as one of Melbourne’s thriving hotspots.
It fuses modern industrial with modern Melbourne and comes with all the bells and whistles… and then some. There are 30 beers on tap, wines, cocktails, adult only slushies, a nitro ice-cream bar, neon signage, a popcorn machine (which revamps the meaning of bar nuts – see ya Nobby) and the list goes on. If that’s not enough, starting in January, Hopscotch will be receiving a giant beer tank and brewing their own signature beer each month.
Brass panelling on the roof and the giant art work graffiti by a Melbourne artist pays a sweet homage to the lane ways and streets throughout this beautiful city.
The vibe and atmosphere comes from the fusion of indoor and out, offering with both front and side entrances, large fold doors that open during the summer months onto the adjoining laneway and unparalled city views…could you get more Melbourne?
The open plan kitchen further enhances this openness, and sees busy kitchen staff preparing food. The menu has been designed for sharing with snacks and meals accompanying any drink perfectly.
The back section of the venue has appropriately been named ‘The Canteen’ which resembles exactly where most of us spent our time in high school. Long benches offer true communal dining and are perfect for group dining events (bookings for 10+ only).
The front area overlooking the Yarra River can be sectioned off for private cocktail style functions and makes the perfect spot for celebrations of any kind, any time, especially during the day when the space is basked in sunlight.
Gone are the days where searching for a bar in the city in Summer is like searching for a needle in a haystack. Hopscotch is gives you outdoors, good vibes, great drinks, awesome food, and is just a hop, skip and a jump away from the heart of the CBD.
