True to form, Hidden City Secrets has just uncovered another one. Adelaide’s answer to the prohibition era with the coolest speakeasy-esque cocktail bar the city may just have.
Cheese is to wine what books are proving to be to, well, all drinks.
Bibliotheca Bar & Book Exchange personifies its name, but is so much more than your average library or bookstore. The concept is very New York, whilst the feel of the bar is reminiscent of a real European bar, tucked away in the streets of Spain. Set amongst a collection of books, incredible cocktails are mixed up in front of your very eyes in a place that oozes relaxation and the staff’s enthusiasm is the most I’ve seen by hospitality workers.
Roman Tazhdyno, the founder of Bibliotecha, knows his stuff having moved from Moscow, bringing with him to Adelaide a wealth of knowledge under his belt from bar ventures and experiences throughout Europe. With this we are able to enjoy the charm of a European bar, right at our doorstep. Doing as the Europeans do, top-shelf spirits are offered and used to create amazing cocktails. It’s simple. Choose your preferred spirit, and leave your fate in the hands of the talented bar tenders to mix up something that tastes as good, if not better than it looks.
We all know that good drinks increase those hunger levels just a touch, and Bibliotecha offer some fabulous antipasto platters and cheese boards to go hand in hand with your beverage.
An integral part of its name is the latter half, where, you guessed it, you can bring an old book and swap it for one of the many they house on the shelves.
The atmosphere has to be experienced, as words can’t seem to do it any justice – if only walls could talk….Bring a book, or bring a friend, regardless, you must stop by and be wowed next time you’re on Hindley St!
